This is me trying to write a fiddle tune. Only thing is, I don't own a fiddle or play one, so I'd be interested to know if it is actually playable on a fiddle...

I guess all the As I've marked with a roll would have to be played as a bowed triplet, unless you do what Zina calls "open string rolls" (?)

Nice tune - but it isn't in A mix, it's a sort of no-name mode. The c-sharp gives it a major key sound, but the f-nat. changes that it an interesting way. Yes, it's certainly playable on fiddle, and should be played. Think I'll try it out tonight.

Yeah, it's not in Amix, but Amix or Edor was the closest I could get to the key.

I'm not actually sure if it sticks to one mode, but it seems to wander between a few different ones. The Fnat is there because it's based round different modes of the melodic minor which is sometimes used in trad - especially Scottish stuff. D melodic minor goes D-E-F-G-A-B-C#, so it's like half major half minor. The name "Overtone" comes from the Lydian b7 or "Overtone scale" used in the B-part where it starts on G. It's called that because if you play all the harmonics on the string of a guitar or fiddle, that's the scale that gets created.
