I would put an ornament (roll or triplet) on the 2nd and 4th beats of bar 6 of the A part, and a trpilet on the 2nd beat of the 4th bar of the B part.

Anyone know how to play a "trpilet" - same as a triplet?

I personally like this one, too! There seems to be another version already posted under the name "The Rising Sun" ( http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/1024 ), although I play the tune more the way you posted it.

Perhaps it's more accurate to say I was taught the tune; really knowing it takes a little longer ...

It's too late for this. While tune #4531 is another "Mulhaire's", it's a different melody attributed to the same person. The triplicates are all, as Mulhaire named them:
"The Old Thatched House"...

Mulhaire's in G
I found Mulhaire's in another key, the key of G major, in the Fiddler's Fancy instruction book. It starts on B before middle C, instead of the F above middle C. I like this version better. I just love the low notes. Here it is, if anyone wants it:
