Dick Harmon's

This tune is actually in Gm (no slot for that in the key menu). I wrote it for my father, born and raised in Brooklyn NY, first generation American of Irish parents from County Roscommon. I promise to not post many original tunes, but this one's so much fun to play, slow or fast, I couldn't resist.

Gminor?

I've added "Gdorian" to the list of key signatures. Same as Gminor, but with the E played natural (same scale as Fmajor or Dminor). I think that's the right mode for this tune.

You're right about this tune being fun to play. It's excellent!

One for the tunebook, methinks.

Gdorian

Thanks, Jeremy, for correctly pegging it in G dorian. And thanks too for the enthusiasm for the tune. Too many original tunes can muck up a web site, but a few can bring new lift into the tradition. Liz Carroll's test for a new tune is whether it's structure is clear and interresting enough to others that they pick it up and play it...we'll see what lands on The Session's play list.

Dick Harmon's

Hey Will, I've just found this tune by accident. I think you posted it "before my time". It's really nice!

that tune is great.

Very familiar, but with a nice twist and a few drops of bitters...

Forgive me Will, another key and a few slight diversions to your tune, but as I'm 'retiring', and as I like the tune, sometimes I go here with it, call this a 'last gasp'? ;-) I suspect some instruments may find it more under finger this way, maybe?

Oh yeah, almost forgot, I sometimes hang on those final As, in other words, for example:

"Dick Harmon's Reel" by Will Harmon ~ a take in A Dorian

Late night / long morning, guilt, though I did email Will, and too damned much strong tea, I screwed up and missed some notes above, so, to admit my sins and correct my screw-ups, here it is corrected ~

If anything off persists I take full blame...

Now, out of respect for the composer and his intent, here it is 'UNADULTERATED', straight from G to A Dorian, nothing else added:

See, I didn't do that much to it. Sometimes I goose the change from the A-part into the B-part with a jump up a 7th ~

Thanks Ceolachan for your thoughtful transposition and arrangement. I might otherwise have never tried my own tune on flute, where it sits very well in Ador.
