Patsy's
I read through this reel about a year ago and added it to my "to learn" list; realized again yesterday that I really do like it. We've stuck it with Glass of Beer and a whole series of reels after that.
I'm turning that first E into a EDE triplet; also I have a different version of the B part that I might integrate... so more soon!

I like this reel, but there is always contention about whether to repeat the parts or not. It's usually written with no repeats, but I have a recording of Joe Burke playing it with Charlie Lennon, and he does repeats... I usually play it with a couple of other 'e-minor' tunes like The fermoy Lasses and Toss The feathers, say.

Matt Molloy has a different version, in which the B-part stays in E dorian instead of shifting down to D major. Something like this:
e2fe befe|deed aded|e2fe befe|defa geed| .....
This is only a rough approximation from memory, so don't go learning it. It's on his 1st (I think) solo album, with Donal Lunny.

Alternate B
Here's the other version of the tune that I have, I could almost post it as a separate one, no? Looks close enough to what you were saying, David. I'll have to go listen to that album... cheers.

Last year I learned a very graceful version of this tune from Paul Dooley, a lovely fiddler in Ennistymon. Something like this:
X: 1
T: Patsy Tuohey's
S: Paul Dooley
Z: Hiroyuki Yamada
M: 4/4
L: 1/8
Q: 300
R: reel
K: Edor

He told us in the workshop that he usually plays this tune between Tommy Peoples' reels (http://thesession.org/tunes/display.php/1100, http://thesession.org/tunes/display.php/192) Lovely set, but I need to practice this one and T Peoples' Bm one more. Not easy for a mediocre whistle player.

By the way, what's the last tune in the clip? It really sounds familiar.

in the album "the unseen dance" by evergreen, it is performed twice.
I like the second version better, where it is played as a guitar and lute duet.
