Miltown?

This is not my ABC, someone gave it to me, but I think it's accurate and I think the tune comes from O'Neills. Still waiting for confirmation on the alternate titles.

LoWhistle, is this the right one?

Tim, that's a totally different tune: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1264

Well, it's a related tune with the same name. If you were trying learn the version on the Patrick Street album (and I think that you should start with a 'heard' setting rather than just a tune title) the link from the album track would lead you here, instead of the link you provided, which is admittedly much closer. And this comment here would give you a fair (to middling) verison to get you started.

The fact that you linked it to another similar version is talso helpful (and thanks for noticing it). I'm not trying to be a pain here, I did not realize that there was another, closer version. But the combination of my post and yours will probably be get someone closer to the tune they were looking for, and isn't that what this site is about?

Complicated business, this trad stuff.

Cheers,
Tim

Why do you think it's a related tune? I don't see any similarity whatsoever between the two tunes, apart from the fact that both are in the key of G and the 2nd part is higher in pitch than the first. Maybe I'm missing something...

# Posted on August 23rd 2006 by Dr. Dow

Oh and the first bar of the 2nd part goes |def gfg|. Hmm. I'm struggling to come up with anything more though...

Tim - On his 1986 recording of "Fiddler's Fancy - 50 Irish Fiddle Tunes," Tommy Peoples plays the same version that you posted above.
