A beautiful end to and end to soon for beautiful man/musician
I got to meet John and his wife Elise at a few gigs and John was always one of the very best pianist in the art.He had others who may have been IN his class but defintely nobody OUTCLASSED.Here he plays with two other giants being Kenny Baron's long time sideman Buster Williams along with Louis Hayes,who is a giant among musicians if not a household word in jazz world.Look at the lovely song selection.Check John's catalogue selection at www.amg.com.This is a great performance coming two months before Johns untimely end.As always I try to mention now www.jazzfoundation.org and I know that John and Elise would love idea that you donated to help jazz musicians in their name.When I asked John and Elise if they wanted to come back to Western Mass. where I am from since I know a local club owner near where they played they said "Yes we might be interested.But really what we like is opportunity to into local schools and put on performance for kids".Money wasn't the issue.It was love.And it came through Johns recordings till the end.He will be sorely missed.

A Fitting Ending
This was John Hicks final studio album(one more live performance CD is also available). His entire catalog is consistently excellent, and I'll always be grateful to David Murray for introducing me to Mr Hicks via his work with him. I also had the pleasure of seeing him perform more than once, and he was a fabulous player, and gracious individual. He is sorely missed.
