Great SingerI can say no more, Ella is a great jazz singer. What else could I say?
Excellent MusicJoe Pass and Ella Fitgerald created an amazing music on this album (and others as well), displaying an amazing sense of swing and melody. It is stunning how subtly Joe Pass complements Ella Fitgerald, and how she opens the heart of each song she sings. It is obvious how much each are listening to each other by the way they create such beautiful music. I would highly recommend this album to anyone.
Raves for EllaElla at her best. A great follow-up to other collaborations with Joe Pass.
Tennessee WaltzFabulous!!! I may be a little partial to this particular song...Redd Stewart, co-writer of "Tennessee Waltz" was my dad!

The Best Of Ella and PassI had the pleasure of knowing Joe Pass in the last days of his life, and he considered this to be his best work with Ella Fitzgerald. It is the only album they did together where he used an accoustic guitar, and the subtle shadings found here cannot be matched in their other work.
As for Ella's voice, it is the most controlled and inspired of their four studio albums. All of these albums were done with no rehearsal, giving both Ella and Joe a chance for true spontaneous improvisation. The song choices are excellent, and I especially recommend "Nature Boy" for the most unusual tune the two ever did together.
