Wonderful songs!I received this musical today, and played it immediately. These are wonderful songs I haven't heard in ages. The title song "No No Nanette" plus "Tea for Two", "I Want to Be Happy" and "You Can Dance With Any Girl" I enjoy so much. I saw this show as a girl growing up in Los Angeles, and still remembered these wonderful songs. I'm so glad I bought this wonderful CD.
Not as good as I rememberedWell sung, and a couple of the songs are great, but I was taken to see a production as a child and it was not as good a show as I remembered.
Damn good music.Just shows how a musical with good singable tunes can last for years. We are still singing and humming tunes from this show today. Pretty nice, isn't it
I LOVE this show! What a score! What a cast! Headed by Ruby Keeler of 1930s Warner Brother's "backstage" films - you know, "you're going out there a no-one and coming back a star!", her cohort in those films, Patsy Kelly, Tony Award winner Helen Gallagher (for this show), song and dance man Bobby Van, the ever-lovable Jack Gilford, and Susan Watson of "Bye Bye Birdie" fame. Each one, plus the suporting players and chorus put their all into making this one of the most enjoyable and infectious cast albums I own. Ruby Keeler tap danced in her films and here she is heard tapping away again, first in a rather serene arrangement of "I Want to be Happy", then full-out with the chorus as the tune becomes upbeat and jazzy. The engineering and sound are spacious and well balanced with no one player/singer overpowering another. This show also has one of the best overtures I've heard and is also famous for introducing the song "Tea For Two", which is heard here with its subsequent dance music. In fact, much of the dance music has been put on the album. There are many bonus tracks including a cut song ad interviews with the show's stars. If you're looking for a fun, tuneful, and great quality CD, look no further.
