Downstairs from 22:00 (sometimes till 3:00 or who knows when) you'll find a tiny smoky basement where musicians gather. Let's call it a fast open session. Newcomers welcome. This is the meeting point after great events. Fluters, Uillean pipers, strings, concertinas, whistles, fiddles. Not to mention bodhrans. Enjoy it
You can buy cheap whistles, bodhrans and flutes at the music shop quite by its side in case of emergency.
On Monday there is an irish music session and on Thursday galician and asturian music.
But don't expect to find these sessions in summer, until september..
The sessions take place on Mondays at 22.00. The place is on Santa María street, which is very near and parallel to Huertas street, a popular area full of bars and nightlife in the centre
Will be in Madrid in November - will try to drop in at La Taberna de la Elisa on Monday night. Can anyone let me know if there are any other sessions? Can anyone confirm Finbar's, please?
Thanks.
I’m working in TABERNA ELISA (Madrid) since March 2008 And I can tell you that at this very moment it's the best ant the only real Celtic pub in Madrid. We have every day good musicians playing or practicing here. If you are in Madrid you have to come here, from 20 Hr to......just drop in on! The official session is on Monday (every Monday) and on Sundays we have live music (groups). You are very welcome, musicians and Celtic music lovers.... pass it down to your friends!
Just in case you happen to read this in time...
Irish fiddler Tommy Peoples will be playing tomorrow 6th of June, 2009 in the Taberna Elisa!
(Santa María Street, 42)
The session is alive and well with fine musicians and great music.
Monday from about 11pm. Other times by chance of arrangement. I really enjoyed myself.
I can confirm that music sessions are very much alive and well at La Taberna de la Elisa. I joined a lively bluegrass session there last night and am just about to head down there for the Monday night Irish session, which starts about 10:30pm.
Btw the other Irish session I've discovered in Madrid is Sunday evenings at O'Neill's pub in Calle Principe (about 5 minutes' walk from the Sol Metro station). That one's an early evening session, starting about 7:30pm.
