How to get there - Take the A2, the coast road from Larne heading up through the Glens of Antrim, & a particularly beautiful road it is too. When you get to Ballygally, watch out for the Castle, & turn left immediately before it & drive straight to the end of that road & your at Cairncastle, & Mattie Moores is right in front of you.
This is a mixed session (yes, men & women), with the emphasis more on the ballads than the tunes.
Does the fact that you mentioned this one is a mixed session, mean that the others aren't? And are you implying that 'allowing' women means more emphasis on the ballads? Them being the softer, gentler, more balladitic sex, of course (or is that ballistic, as in going? *snort, chuckle, cough, ahem* ...
This session, like most, is male dominated, which is a bloody shame when you think of all the brilliant female musicians there are.
The mixture I was referring to was the song / tune one. The sessions in the Carrick a Rede are the same, mostly songs with a few tunes thrown in, so if you like a good sing song, these pubs are the spots to head to if your up our way.
Just to let you know the Matties session has finished after 15 years (venue turned into a restaurant, and front bar too small) so we have moved to Billy Andy's Pub in Ralloo. same musicians same time 4pm - 9pm. Herge

*More* emphasis on the singing than the tunes?! Wow. That must be quite a singers' session, then... That'd be highly unusual here in the States.

Sorry that didn't come out the way I'd intended.
