Mark Farrell, the landlord of the Plume (and a landlord in a million as far as sessions are concerned - many thanks Mark for your outstanding support and enthusiasm), has left the pub trade to set up a new (non-pub) business.
A new landlady has taken over today (27 March 2006), and the early indications are that the very successful and friendly Monday evening session will continue as usual at the Plume under the leadership of Dave Rowlands and Mike Edwards of The Gypsie's Kiss Band.
Sessions start at 8.30.
The first video was last Friday at the Plume of Feathers in Hotwells, Bristol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1WN84ZnOiE
You'll first see Phil and Gavin on fiddles, with Jenny on bodhrán between them; then Big Wes doing one of his singing spots accompanied by Gavin; then all the musicians together. The final shot is of the cameraman
The next video is of an authentic pub drunk singing at the Barley Mow in Bristol. The landlord's dog shows his gifts as a critic. You couldn't make it up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LD_GxCFXCXQ
Many thanks to Martin ("Spokulator36") for filming these videos on the spur of the moment.
A new landlord (Nick) has taken over, and the sessions are now on alternate Fridays, but no longer under the aegis of the Gypsie's Kiss Band. The Monday session is now at The Lion at the top of the steps opposite the Plume, from 8:15 -11, and is run by the Gypsie's Kiss.
The pub has now been taken over by two ladies who are extremey enthusiastic about all things Irish. The Session on alternate Fridays (the other venue is the Barley Mow) is invariably very successful.
Plume of Feathers (alternate Fridays) - PUB NOW CLOSED
This pub, unfortunately, is now closed. Its closure was a sudden and unexpected event - the landlord appears to have sold it to a big chain, which promptly closed it. The ladies who ran it had only two or three days' notice. Sadly, we had a session there on the night it closed, which was when most of us first heard about the closure.
The pub will probably re-open sometime under its new owners (Admiral Taverns) - but don't hold your breath - and with new management, but there is no guarantee, or even a probability, that sessions will start up again at the Plume.
Meanwhile, this session, which still alternates on Fridays with the Barley Mow, is now at the Kingsdown Vaults in Bristol, a well-established pub music venue. The success and popularity of the session continues.

Are any members of Bristol's 'Plume Session', org-ers?
"Fortnightly Irish session at 'The Plume of Feathers' pub in Hotwells, Bristol."
Do you know any of these unusual looking suspects?
