Starts around 6, 6.30-ish, ending at 9. Small session with Brian Kelly on banjo, Sonya on guitar/vocals, Christian Vaughn-Spruce on piano box and various other blow-ins, including myself from time to time. Great pub, perfect venue for a session. They show GAA during the afternoon and the patrons are good steam. Also serves excellent Thai food.
i popped in, the week before last, with a fiddle player after our session in kilburn, and this was going nice and strong with 5 fiddles, banjo, piano box, flute, 2 guitars, bodhran and some other things . . .
the governer bought us a drink on arrival ( _always appreicated), but we had to leave by 10.30, not before sonya's 'Cliffs . . . ', and it went on 'til midnight, so can't be bad
As a pre-launch event for "The Glass Slipper", the compilation of Irish and Scottish trad music on the mandolin which I've been putting together and which is nearing the matering and pressing stage, there's a special one-off "mandocentric" session here next Wednesday.
Among the mandolin players of note who will be in attendance are Dan Beimborn, Kevin MacLeod and (hopefully) Mark Conyard.
Mando-centric, but not mando-only ... players of all instruments are welcome to pop along for a few tunes.
The guv'nor was really up for this session, so if any of the rest of the crew here ever need a one-off (or even regular, who knows!) session venue pretty close to the Centre of London, you could do a lot worse than getting in touch with Tommy Flynn's as a first resort.
I was that last night with Ciaran Bradley and Paddy Power. Found myself at Tommy Flynn's at one point. Even more embarassing, seem to remember joining in the session. Nice bunch of people, nice players and not a bad wee pub. Would go again the next time I'm let out.
Hi folks, there's a session here on the REAL St Patrick's Day - Friday 17th March 2006.
We're kicking off at 1pm and it should go on until at least 5pm, depending on people's plans for afterwards, so might be an all-nighter. Tell your friends!
Session over. Used to be really good but due to circumstances beyond the control of the musicians it has now died a death. I'll keep my opinions on how the pub is being "run" to myself for now.
