This session has been going for about a month now. It kicks off at around 7:30 pm and goes until about 10-ish. Mostly tunes, but a few songs as well. Everyone's welcome - mainly Irish stuff being played but we take all kinds. As it is only a new session, word is still getting around, so we need more people coming along to support it and help make it a really great night out...
I visited the Mean Fiddler a few weeks ago (March 2006). The Wednesday night session is still going strong - same time as before. Some good players offering up a mixture of tunes and songs. Alison Boyd and the other "locals" give a warm welcome and plenty of opportunities to contribute. They also host a session on Sundays from 5 till 8.
Sunday session is still on 4-8pm.
New unplugged session Tuesday 8-10.30pm upstairs in the old rooms by the fire. Just like in an old pub in Donegal. Great atmosphere. All players, singers and audience very welcome.
Wednesday night is now a concert type night. Still Irish tunes and songs, but not really where anyone can join in.
I used to play at this session but it all went pear shaped which was a great pity. Anyway, for dos and anyone else out there I believe it is still Wed but now just the 1st Wed of the month.
We are still there - sometimes we're just a bit harder to find than others.
The Tuesday night session moved to Wednesdays a long time back
so..............
the 1st Wednesday of the month we are downstairs in the Irish bar (near the piano) - 7.30 - 10.30pm - ish - depending on who shows up it could be more songs than tunes.
most other Wednesdays we are upstairs in the old back rooms just playing tunes with the occasional song.
Sundays is 6pm -late in the Irish Bar (near the piano) and is more of a "come-all-ye, see what happens, but hopefully mainly Irish" sort of a night.
Management has decided to get rid of the Sunday come-all-ye (replaced with Irish bands) and moved the "sing-along" to every Wednesday at 7.30pm. There will be tunes but mainly songs depending on who turns up.
