Treatment of musicians

I've been tempted to visit this session but have heard a lot of bad reports about the poor treatment of the session musicians in this venue. "Treated like sh-te" was a one expression I heard used.
Would Djjs or one of the regulars who frequent this pub care to comment?

White Hart Inn, Edinburgh

Hi all,

I haven't seen this website before, but it was pointed out to me because of an old discussion about the Monday session in the White Hart Inn in Edinburgh.

I am not here to start a fresh discussion, but would like to inform everyone that the session discussed before is still happening.

Andrew (fiddle & cittern) and I (Marieke - guitar/bodhran/vocals) still host a traditional Scottish session each Monday between 9pm and midnight. It is an open session and anyone wanting to join is more than welcome to do so.

John, thanks for your kind remarks and it would be good to see you back some time. Mike, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experience. I have heard both sides of the story from both your fellow musicians and White Hart management. I appreciate that personal experiences are a good reason for not coming back to a particular pub.

I would like to emphasise though, that our session is still going with the support from both (new!) management and bar staff of the White Hart Inn.

Keep the music going to you all! That's, after all, what it is all about.

Marieke.

Re: White Hart Inn, Edinburgh

Thanks Marieke. It's good to know your session is going strong. I'll give it another try. There were a few bad comments elsewhere but they didn't relate to the Monday session.

Re: White Hart Inn, Edinburgh

I'm sure Michael G will make great use of this site. He's a great fan, I believe. :-)

And Jim, you could and, maybe, should(according to Jeremy)have submitted this in the "Links" section. :-)

Treatment of musicians

The White Hart Inn has had some barstaff in the past who were not interested in Trad. music. I think that was the main problem.

At the moment that doesn't seem to be as bad. On the Monday night we normally have the same guy running the bar. He plays trad music before we come in, knows our faces for the drinks on the bartap, gives us table service, doesn't kick us out at 5 past midnight... So in short I don't have any complaints. I cannot speak for other nights though, as I don't tend to be in this pub on other nights than Mondays.

Monday session moved location

The Monday session has moved (twice!), I understand. Was in Greyfriars Bobby, is now setting up in the Tass (High Sreet), still on Mondays.

We're in The Tass now indeed

Hi all,

yep; we did indeed move pub. We're now in The Tass on the High Street, every Monday night 8.30 - 11.30 (so 30 minutes earlier than before). It'll be good to see some of you there.

Cheers,
Marieke
