'll be in Chicago in a few weeks and would love to get a few tunes in - can anyone give me an update on Chicago sessions - downtown rather than suburbs?
Sessions are held Wednesdays between 7-7:30 and 10pm on the third floor. It welcomes new people. It is not a fast session and the older musicians know their stuff.
The Irish-American Heritage Center (the Center or Irish Center for short) is a 3-story building with 2 parking lots, covering a complete city block on the northside of the city. It offers many cultural programs and diversions throughout the week for families and adults, ie, a pub, auditorium, library, 2 museums, immigration help, music and dance and language lessons for all ages, and more. (It used to be a city junior college). This, in fact, is the place where Liz Carroll got her start.
I visited this session recently and can confirm that it still happens at the same time and the same place.
The musicians were welcoming, had many years of musical experience, and it´s a session I would recommend to anyone visiting Chicago.
I was also very impressed by the Center and its activities. Irish Americans can feel justifiably proud of this undertaking.
More sessions plkease

Um, I think Liz "got her start" on the South Side!! This is a very nice, welcoming session run by the great North Side Irish Musicians!
