Please note I am a traveller, not a local, I visit here once or twice a year. My info might be out of date.
This is a social club with various function rooms, but you are made welcome in the bar if you are carrying an instrument. Emphasis on Irish tunes of course, a number of youngsters who are taking fiddle and whistle classes join in the session. There was a German banjo player, so it has the authentic flavour of West Cork! Highlight for me was when an older Irish club member sang the Slim Dusty song “Paddy William”.
Yes Bren the session does still run on Monday nights.
For those that are passing through it usually doesn't start until about 9.30pm because the classes run from 8-9 followed by a bit of social interaction before the musical main course begins. It goes on until evryone has had enough and that can be as late as midnight.
The number at the session varies considerably as does the talent and abilities. The room is non-smoking BTW.
The German banjo player is back working on the Aran islands, where he is the local GP, after spenfding 6 months here.
We had a recent visit from another from "The Session" - Fenn.
Do drop in if you are passing.
Cheers
