The Gables

This is a great session. Starts around 9.30 and is a good place to be able to here other musicians. Friendly bunch including folk who play button box, whistle, fiddle, bouzouki, guitar etc).

Gables

Made my first visit to the Gables at about 9.30pm last Sunday, and found a box player and a two banjo players who were all playing to a very high standard, and obviously well into the music. I had only my mandolin due to difficulties carrying the banjo on the plane, but in such exalted company perhaps it was just as well. I was unreservedly welcomed into the small circle, and played with them (where I could), until about 11.30. One of the banjo player had Paragon tenor, a superb instument which he lent me for a couple of sets, which was an extraordinarily generous gesture to a complete stranger, which was most appreciated, sorry but I'd had a few beers & cannot remember any of their names!
Certainly hope to visit again when I'm in Cork in the future - thanks to Jamie from 'The Session' for bringing it to my attention, with a very detailed e-mail, complete with map links, times, very detailed information
Cheers

Wednesday night

I arrived at 9pm but it started at 9:30 with a box player and guitar. They were soon joined by simple flute and a bodhran. great night but a bit smokey

Still wonderful

This session is still going strong (May 2008) with fresh new wonderful talent joining the session regularly, the music lives. John you'll be glad to know that the smoking ban has solved the smokey issue.
