A great session here at 9.30 on tuesday nights with a selection of instruments (fiddles, pipes, banjo, guitar, bodhran etc) and a great atmosphere in the pub. A quieter session is here on Friday and Sunday from 6.30pm.
I made it to Cork last week, and got to the Sin E along with my mandolin, (banjo too big to carry on plane), at about 7.30pm on the Sunday. I was made to feel very welcome by the musicians, and played with them for couple of hours. Eric (banjo), Stella (fiddle), and Michael (fiddle), and a guitarist, bodhrain, and flute made for a tight and high standard session with good variety of tunes. The pub turned over to the jukebox at 9.30pm but then it had started at 6.30pm. Very enjoyable session, which I hope to visit again when I am in Cork. Thanks to Jamie from 'The Session' for bringing it to my attention
Paid a return visit this Tuesday night at about 10pm , and once again found it a great session, & again felt very welcome having managed to squeeze in to fairly packed corner fora few tunes. Will definitely go again whenever I'm in Cork, thanks to all who were there
A belated thanks to all those that made me feel welcome back in October of last year. I arrived just before the start of the 6:30 PM Friday session 10/13. I could only stay for an hour and a half. Great session, nice tunes , friendly players. I was the middleaged Yank concertina player. Who was the McCarthy that said hello as I left? Never had a chance to chat....
Thanks also to everal that responed by mail with more background, suggestions , as to other sessions in Cork .
Looking forward to coming back later this year, proabably the fall. Will make sure I have time to stay for the entirety.
Caught the 'tail end' of a session in Sin É on Sunday two weeks ago. Good tune and a nice crowd. We only arrived around 10, so we only played for an hour.
Nevertheless - recommended!
