Session is hosted by Eoin O'Neill (see http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display.php/477 for details of his session CD). This is a very welcoming session and Eoin makes sure that all musicians get a chance to start something if they wish. It starts around 10pm and gets an appreciative audience where musicians have no trouble hearing one and other!
I was at a session at May Kearney´s on Sunday 20 April from 6 to 9p.m. I don´t know if it is a regular session or was just a one off, but I can vouch for everything bannerman says about the friendly attitude that reigns there. Eoin O´Neil is an ideal session host, welcoming and encouraging newcomers. On this occasion he was ably assisted by Pat O´Connor (fiddle). Both of them can also be found working/helping in Custy´s music shop.
It was a pleasant change from the more "cliquey" sessions that seem to be prevalent in Ennis these days.
As far as I know the Sunday evening session is also a regular event although I haven't had the chance to go there yet. Eoin also hosts another good session in Brandon's on Monday nights which I posted some time ago.
Sorry to report that this session has unfortunately bitten the dust. Pub Changed hands, was revamped and now resurrected as the Bargerooms or something.
Eoin O'Neill and Quentin Cooper are happily soldiering on in Brogan's in O'Connell Street, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A very welcoming session as one has come to expect from this duo.
