A local session with mainly Irish music played. Not a singaround but singing welcomed. The pub is a gem, being a 15th Century farmhouse/royal hunting lodge. The session starts about 9.30 and is held in the Old Dog Bar.
This pub is closing down and the last session is likely to be tonight (22/4/4). We are hoping to move to another pub and will post the details here and under the name of the new location
Paul ... get a pub nearer the station and any night other than Thursday and you'll get the occasional delegation from Lewisham/Catford/Greenwich darkening your door!
The session will continue at the Spotted Dog. The orginal sale fell through and the pub has been bought by a small chain who are intent on keeping it open as a pub. The new landlord is Irish and keen to keep the music going.
Arrived at the pub last night to find it closed. So much for the new manager's declaration of support!
Rather than continue we decided to follow up a lead and accordingly decamped to the Princess of Wales, West Ham Lane, Stratford, London E15 where we met the landlord, Conor, and arranged to start there next Thursday night. The pub is not far from Stratford town centre and about 5-6 minutes walk from the station which serves the Central Line, the Jubilee Line, the Docklands Light Railway and mainline services.
Sadly the Spotted Dog looks very closed down. We've had some great acoustic sessions there over the years - Irish Traditional, folk, blues, etc.
Irish Traditional music is alive and well at the Chevy Chase pub, near Maryland B.R. Station, The Grove/Leytonstone Road, going out of Stratford. Sessions are usually between 4.00 and 7.00pm every Sunday. Listeners and players all welcome.
