The Union Session

"Hosted" (not very formally) by excellent fiddler/whistler Grace Kelly (sister of John Joe Kelly the bodhran player). Very high standard Irish tune session, often attended by some of Manchester's stable of ITM pros when they are at home with nothing better to do (e.g. Mike McGoldrick, John Joe.....). Very friendly and welcoming though and local youngsters turn up and get encouraged. Doesn't start before 9 p.m. and tends to have to wait for whatever football is on the telly to finish - and the room is rather small and can get very crowded on a good night, so as well to arrive in good time and put up with the dang fussball! It's an hour's drive for me so I don't go regularly, but as often as I can. Great session!

Footy Rules

The session must not ever interfere with whatever football match is going on, so sometimes doesn't start till 10pm. There's a few lairy customers about too.

I used to go in as a lad with my dad , there was music then, in the 1950s! Old boys with dogs and fiddles and flutes
