More details

First and third Wednesdays of the month, starting on 5 September, 2007.
Starting time 7:30
The 445 bus, and the 432/433/434 stops on Darling Street only 100 m from the pub. You could even walk from Victoria Road, but that would take 10 or 15 minutes.
See more about the pub at: http://www.sydneypubguide.net/pubs/Riverview.aspx

Two days to go..

Just two days till we start to see what this new session might be like!
On the "Details" tab here at thesession.org I mentioned the yahoo "group" at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/riverviewsession/ that should carry any necessary details, schedules etc.. I know some people are a bit wary of yahoo, but I have used their groups for years and never had any problem. This one has been set up as openly as possible, so you can see messages easily without joining. Members names and addresses are *not* made public (unless you post a message, of course). You'll only need to join yahoo if you ever want to do that, or if you want to see any pictures or download files that conceivably one day might be there. So no need to be nervous about it.
George Bush is expected to be in Sydney as from tomorrow (how could we not know that?), but I can assure you that no representatives of ASIO, the AFP or the CIA have been invited - the pub is officially in a free-speech zone! Anyone carrying a gun will be breaking the law, probably, though at the rate the authorities are giving themselves new powers here, who knows?
Hope to see some of you there!

First bash

It happened! It was fine! Bit more of a report under http://groups.yahoo.com/group/riverviewsession/

Second bash

It would get tedious if I were to add a comment for every session, but as this is only the second bash, and as it is not happening every week, I thought I’d add this reminder. Generally I’ll just keep a timetable up-to-date at the Riverview group on yahoo (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/riverviewsession/).
On reason it might get tedious is that some of you may get this message by more than one route – apologies in advance.
The “first and third Wednesdays of the month” cycle will take us from today (19 Sep) through to the 3rd and 17th of October. If all is still going strong, there would then be a three-week gap before 7 Nov.
Last time the yahoo calendar sent out a reminder about half an hour beforehand. I have (I think) now cancelled that!
Hoping to see some of you!

2008

Christmas is upon us, but we do expect to start again in the standard pattern (1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month) on the 2nd of January.

# Posted on December 22nd 2007 by Lingpupa

On the 2nd of January 2008, things turned out different

See http://groups.yahoo.com/group/riverviewsession/

Next session, of course, 16th Jan

# Posted on January 15th 2008 by Lingpupa

Next again:

We had 6 Feb, next is 14 Feb

# Posted on February 19th 2008 by Lingpupa

Good grief, was I drunk?

When I posted the above - 14 isn't even a multiple of seven more than 6, let alone two weeks later. My brain must have shorted out at the prospect of adding 14 to 6! The next session should of course have been 20 Feb!

Sudden end

On arrival on the 16th April the barmaid (who has always been helpful) told me that the new management have decided
a) no more free drinks to anyone, ever
b) no music on weekdays
"And what about tonight?", sez I, thinking that, since we were already arriving and there had been no notice, it would only be reasonable for us to have the last session. This too had been ruled out, sez she.

It was said that the neighbours had complained, which only shows that the manager is not willing to stand up for his decision - there is *no way* that we could be louder than the television near the front door (often turned loud so that the smokers could watch sport from outside).

So with the aid of mobile telephones those assembling were diverted to CAG's kitchen, where good tunes were had - thanks C.

There are thoughts along the lines that there does seem to be a demand, not huge but nevertheless real, for an alternative to Kelly's as a weeknight session. If a venue is found, it will be announced here. Who knows?

It even now seems the pub has closed - anybody surprised?

just shows what a lack of tunes does to a place
