A big thank you to those who made it to the first sesh in the Adelaide. There was a good mix: Sonya on guitar and voice, Adam on banjo and mandolin, John on flute, John number 2 on bodhran, Crispin on mandolin, Ciara on fiddle and bodhran and Alan on concertina. Aoife kept it going nicely with cupla deocheanna saoire. Hope to see everyone again next week. next week.
Well tonight they moved us to a bigger table and switched off the overhead fans which were "blowing the music away" a little bit last week. It was really comfortable and quite warm.
We had a small turn-out to begin with: the "regulars" Adam, Sonya and myself, along with Amy on fiddle which was a welcome surprise. A little later in the proceedings we were joined by John on fiddle who played a lovely tune that I first heard in Donegal - I think it was a German although people who know me will realise that it probably wasn't at all. Cheers for coming along John; hope to see you back again.
Towards 9.30 or so the cavalry arrived - Brian French on pipes, Jean-Pierre from Montpelier also on pipes and Gary who gave us some great songs. The pipes and guitar went down a treat. Thanks lads!!
A great start to this little session - roll on next Wednesday!
Ahhh! good to see it's been made a weekly thing; I would have been there this week if I'd realised! Hopefully myself and a friend will pop along for the craic this week
Another lovely night. As well as the usual suspects (can I say "usual" after 3 weeks?) we were joined by Gervais on guitar and John on fiddle.
Thanks to everyone for making it along. The crowd were quite appreciative, which is a bit of a novelty; we even had one guy join in on spoons from another room; unfortunately he had downed a few too many sherbets. Adam asked if he would kindly stop and he kindly did! No harm done. Brian thanked Adam for his "Sterling" work. Droll!
Thanks everyone who turned up on Wed 10th Jan.
Great session: Samantha, Eimear, Aileen, Amy, Emily, Sonya, Adam, Karen, Gervais, Nigel... who else? I'm sure there were some more. My memory escapes me... 'twas a big one, anyhow
Conan I hope you spiked his drink with that slow-acting poison I gave you the other day for this very purpose. I calculate that Danny now has about 12 hours to live. Quick Danny, how many names can you drop in 12 hours?
Well the only one really worth dropping is Dow, then there's Dow, then Dow, Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow, Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,
Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,
Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow,Dow.........
(hopefully I can kill you by being nauseatingly nice)
No worries Danny. The landlady (Aoife) is really into the music. The punters took a wee while to get used to it but I think it's going down well. It's in a strange no-man's-land between a few housing estates and Primrose Hill so there's a nice mix of people. So anyway come along any time you need your head showered. And Dow I'm not sure he quaffed the polonium-laced tea; I think the faint smell of raw fish alerted him! Thanks again to everyone who came along. I think you'll agree last week was a bit disjointed at times.... this week it came together nicely.
Dow your post just reminded me of a joke I heard about George Best. Best is in hospital and the doc says "George I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news is that you've only an hour to live. The good news is it's Happy Hour!!"
Just a heads-up about Saturday 17th March. We're hoping to have an extra-large-supersize-me-session-with-fries on St Pat's night. Please come along and enjoy the evening. It promises to be a late one. I promise to die my beard green in honour of the occasion.
For all those who are interested, the Adelaide session will run tomorrow night, Wednesday August 15th from 8.30.
it will continue on a monthly basis so keep an eye out for details of when it's happening or send me an e-mail.
I think Conan must be too busy to post, but I went along last week and discovered that this session is back to being weekly which is jolly good because it's a nice pub with good beer and easy parking - oh and pretty good musicians as well.
Just to confirm what Helen said, The Adelaide is indeed running weekly again.
Come along and support your local session! Have a drink and a bit of a tune in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The food is great too! Also check out the other events happening during the rest of the week - salsa, quiz nights, comedy club (Harry Hill, Earl Okin and others). Top venue.
New Session
This session will start on on Wednesday November 8th and will continue on a weekly basis.
We aim to get started at 8.30. This is a comfortable, well-known pub with a reputation for good food.
Musicians and singers welcome! Please come along and help us get this one off the ground.
Thanks
Conán

Adelaide 18th July
Just a word to say that the Adelaide sessin will not be happening this Wednesday due to refurbishment.
Although the sesh will resume next week, there is a chance that it will be fortnightly, or even monthly, rather than weekly.
Watch this space for details.
Thanks
Conan
