Interesting to see the connection between the Garda and traditional music. The great Leitrim composer, Joe Liddy was a Garda as was box player Jimmy McGreevey and, believe it or not, I'm told Tommy Peoples also served some time in the force! The tradition obviously continues.
You´re right, PaddyC. He was stationed in the Ring gaeltacht about 1970. He played us a few tunes on the fiddle - in full uniform, at one of the local pubs !
Garda Club
Starts at 9:30 (might start earlier in the future), goes on till after 12:00.
Mixed singing and tunes, depending on who turns up. All welcome, and we try to give eveyone a chance to sing, play, etc.

Trad music owes the polis a lot.
Where would we be if Police Chief O'Neill hadn't rounded up all those tunes and given them in charge to Sergeant James?
You could have a whole night of Peeler tunes.

For the record, John Dwyer was also a Garda.
