This venue replaces the Plume of Feathers in Hotwells nearby. The session is still run by Dave owlands and Mike Edwards of the Gypsie's Kiss Band and is from 8:15 to 11:00 sharp. The restriction of a relatively early finish is because the pub is in the middle of a residential area.
The sessions are lively and of a high standard. Mostly Irish, but other types of folk music are not uncommon. A very appreciative audience.
The pub is best reached on foot from the main Hotwells Road at the foot of Clifton. Immediately opposite the Plume of Feathers there are about 83 steps leading up to Church Lane. Halfway up, you may want to pause to admire the magnificent view over the Harbour and the hills beyond. At the top you enter Church Lane. Walk about 100 yards up Church Lane (14% gradient) and the pub is on your left. You'll probably now feel well in need of refreshment.
There is usually parking in Hotwells Road, but watch out for parking restrictions.
There are still Irish sessions at the Plume of Feathers in Hotwells Road under its new management, but now on alternate Fridays.

The Lion

"Dave Rowlands", not "Dave owlands"!

The Lion can also be reached by driving up steep narrow residential roads branching from Ambra Vale, a turning off the Hotwells Road a few hundred yards past, and on the same side as, the petrol filling station opposite the Plume of Feathers, as you drive out of Bristol. But parking in those residential roads can be problematic!
