Wednesday session - Queen's Arms

Every Wednesday, and about to enter it's third year!

Small, warm, friendly pub, nice acoustic, open fire in the winter, good beer.

Generally a mix of Northumberland/Scottish/Irish, but a definite 'anything goes policy' - jazz singing/Klezmer/exotic instruments have all made appearances in the past - probably not for purists! New players always welcome - encouraging attitudes for the less confident/experienced.

Generally kicks off around 8.30, through till closing.

Queen's arms - is it still happening

Called in to look on Wednesday 18th July 2007 No one in by 21.50 so went to Cumberland. Beer is a lot cheaper in the Queens mind!

Queen's arms - is it still happening

I've taken a look a couple of times in the last year to no avail..... could be dead.
A phone call to the pub would clarify I suppose.

The Queen is dead - long live...The Side Cafe!

The Queens session was inexplicable killed off after more than three great years by objectionable staff who preferred the jukebox.

After a couple of trial gigs, there is now a session on Wednesdays in the lovely Side Cafe. THe atmosphere is a little different from playing in a pub, but the place is now pretty packed most weeks (with punters). Their are a few regular musicians, but all are welcome. The music is mostly trad tunes, but anything goes, with jazz standards and Klezmer and Balkan tunes making the odd appearance. There is even a double-bass that lives in the place, and may be brought out on request.
