Session starts around 7:30 on Sundays, or as the musicians trickle (stagger?) in. Reels, jigs, hornpipes, slipjigs, even the occasional song are played at moderate speeds, once in a great while someone even dances. There were three fiddlers, two guitarists, two uillean pipers, one whistler and one accordionist on a recent Sunday night, and as that might not sound like a lot, the venue is fairly small and they filled the room with sound.
I'm going to be in the L.A. area in mid February and am looking for a session or two to hit while I'm there. Is this possible?
(I'll be located in Venice/Santa Monica)
The owners have canceled the sessions at the I.t. in favor of a plugged in band to try and get a younger, rowdier, money-paying pool playing crowd into the bar on Sunday nights. God luck to them
Most of the former sessioneers have gone on to join a small band and now regularly play at a couple of local farmer's markets (La Canada on Saturdays and Encino on every other Sunday) and guests are always welcome.
Irish Times Session
All musicians welcome!
