Just want to add that the session is now run by Joe and Mike O'Shea, father/son duo. Joe is an accordion player originally from Clare residing in Chicago for many years now. His son Mike is an accomplished fiddler getting back to the music after some time away from it.
This is a session, not a song circle. It is a long session however and it is often desirable to have a singer or two perform maybe once an hour so we can go to the bathroom, refresh our pints, smoke, chat up someone at the bar, etc.
Guitarists, bouzouki players, and bodhrani welcome as long as you know what you're doing. Don't come here to just sit there and noodle, or to "experiment" with jazz/funk/afro-cuban styles etc. In other words know something about traditional Irish music and how to accompany it if you're going to come here. You don't have to be a world-beater, just have some manners and a bit of skill. It's OK if you don't know the majority of the tunes, we won't kick you out for that, heavens it's no sin to not know every shagging tune ever composed. But try to bring something to session, eh?
It's not our job to validate everyone's feelings - you have to have enough actual skill and enough belief in yourself to join in and participate. Don't expect to be asked to start something, although we try to ask everyone present to start something at least once, and don't try to start a set of tunes every time there's a bit of silence.
This is a session for intermediate to advanced players of Irish traditional instruments and maybe a stringed accompanist who knows how to back ITM.
THIS SESSION IS NOT A VENUE FOR COMPULSIVE ATTENTION-SEEKING BEHAVIOR BY THE SOCIALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL.
Have a nice day : )
PS We really do have a sense of humor, it's just that the recent past has been, well, a mixed bag, and we're trying to eliminate some of the nonsense that used to take place here. If a few peoples' feelings get hurt, we're sorry you feel that way, but we're not changing our minds.

Still at it
An update to say that things are the same: the session is still on Sundays from 3-6pm, the session leadership rotating week to week.

Well the session is not really the same if it has rotating session leaders, it would be different than having an established leader.

Nice afternoon of tunes
I wandered in with my family last Sunday afternoon. Just listening but a friendly place with good music!

Death of session
I liked this session, run most recently by Declan Fahy, but apparently the landlord pulled the plug summer 2008, so it is no more.
