Open Session Monday Nights at the Wolf and Hound, Vancouver

Monday nights from 8 - 11pm, hosted by Michale Pratt. This is the friendliest session in town - lots of simple tunes that beginners can pick up on, especially near the begininning of the evening. Everyone heartily welcome.

French Canadian session at Wolf and Hound no longer, alas!

Unfortunately the trad French Canadian session no longer has a home, a shame as we had great local musicians attending, and visitors , such as Yves Lambert, founding member of la Bottine Souriante, and Clyde Curley co author of the Portland collection, among others. Thanks to all who have supported and enjoyed the session! We are looking for another venue, but meanwhile will host house sessions. Do contact me if interested in attending, or if you have a suitable venue and are interested in making this lively and fun music available to your patrons.

Is the Monday session still going? We will be visiting in summer 2006 and looking for a friendly session.

Fridays @ WOlf and Hound

There is an informal session Fridays 8-12 or so, hosted by various people. It is medium-advanced (you must know your tunes) and primarily Irish trad, although we have seen some Nova Scotian and the occasional country tune and sea shanty toward the end fo the night.

Etiquette notes...

if you are new to this one, here´s the Code:

-- ONE guitar player at a time for Irish trad tunes.
-- ONE or TWO bodhrans, not more, at a time.
-- If you don´t know the tune, or if you can´t play it at the speed it´s being played, don´t play along...listen. There are some very fine musicians here (not me) and you can learn loads! This goes double for guitar players-- cowboy chords suck.
-- say hello to Mary the session leader when you show up.

Monday Night Beginner's session reincarnated at the Celtic Traditions Store

The beginner session formerly held at the Wolf and Hound has been reborn at Celtic Traditions up the street on Friday evenings starting at 8pm. It seems to be a quieter affair now, without the diners and drinkers - good for picking up tunes. There is a suggested donation of $5 to pay the utilities.

Celtic Traditions is at 3754 West 10th Ave, Vancouver. For up-to-date info, call the shop at 604-222-2299

WOLF AND HOUND session cancelled

The Wednesday and Fri W&H sessions have been cancelled because the pub owner wants more $$ which she thinks will come from showing sports events on TV. Thanks to the pub ownership for having this session run since 2003.

There is an invite-only session (which is very good and features some singing but mostly trad tunes) in Vancouver Sunday nights. If you are in town and interested, send me a message and I will pass you on to the organiser.

# Posted on August 26th 2008 by chris stolz

Correction-- FRIDAYS @ W&H are still on

Fridays at the W&H are still on. Tune sets and some singing hosted by Mary Brunner and the usual guitar player suspects. Open, friendly etc.
