This is a long running session - 18 years now, Every friday at 9.30-10.00pm in the snug, featuring John Lyons, Haulie Moloney and lots of talented local musicians from Spancil Hill, Ballycar, Ballykilty and other local parishes. If you are in Clare, it's one not to miss.
Quin is located 6 miles east of Ennis and there are plenty of good quality B&Bs if you want to stay over.
A regular Wednesday night Seisiun has started in Malachy's Bar in Quin.
Loads of great Tunes and Gemma is fairly generous with the Pints for the musicians!
Since it's now 2011, I thought it was time for an update to this posting. This session must be going at least 24 years by now...is this a record?..who cares...it has become part of the living tradition in Co. Clare and deserves to be mentioned within this forum again.
John Lyons remains in the hotseat as leader of the session, but unfortunately without his friend Haulie Moloney who passed away in May 2008. However, Haulie's legacy lives on through the continued growth and popularity of this session with many visiting musicians and singers and where the punters usually participate at some stage in the evenings proceedings with a verse or two of their favorite songs or poems.
This session is very welcoming to all musicians, singers and bards alike, it has a great balance of tunes and songs and starts between 9:30 and 10:00pm every Friday night.
Be sure to check it out if you are passing through.
This session ceased December 16th 2011. The pub is under new management. John Lyons was sacked with just 4 hours notice and just 1 hour after the signing of the lease. The session has now moved. It takes place alternate weeks in the "Monk's Well" Quinn and the "Honk" pub in Ballycally, Shannon at the back of the airport on Fridays from 9.30 until it finishes.
