The session starts around 8:00 p.m. and runs until the coffeehouse closes (about midnight). The regulars are very friendly and are open to beginners, newcomers, and visitors.

These are my observations, as a beginner who's been playing in this session for about 5 months. Tune selection and speed depends on who is there that night. Most nights it's Irish, mostly reels and jigs, but songs and tunes from other traditions may be played. We always play at least one waltz at some point in the evening. Beginners come early (7:30); the pace starts out slower and normally picks up as the evening progresses and more players arrive.

Occaisionally some other event is scheduled at the coffeehouse on a Saturday, and the session gets delayed, moved, or canceled. When a contradance is scheduled on a Saturday evening, most of the musicians will be found dancing, calling, or playing in the band, so the session might not materialize. See the Alaska Folk Music website (also listed under "Sessions" in the "Links" section as "Alaska & Yukon sessions") for local contacts.

Still there.

As of this month, this session is still going, the first Saturday of the month. The coffeehouse calendar may be more up to date if you're wondering some time in the future.
