I tracked this session down last week. Small group, very friendly, and they were quite happy to have a visiting musician sitting in. Began around 7:30 and went till about 11:00.
And here are some better directions for finding the pub, it's not exactly on the corner of 17th and Main, and has no visible street number. If I hadn't had their phone number with me I'd never have found the place.
When you find the intersection of 17th and Main you'll notice that the north side of 17th has been turned into a Farmer's Market (very obvious, lots of big wooden stalls). You can still drive along each side though, so turn north on 17th street, when you reach the end of the farmer's market, turn left. The pub is at the next corner, of 17th on the other side of the farmer's market and the alley that is running perpendicular to the street. There is a parking lot available, labeled as parking for Havana '59 and O'Briensteins. The pub itself does not currently have a name (apparently it used to be part of the O'Briensteins chain but is no longer), but you can spot it by the red door and knot work stained glass in the windows.
Unfortunately, O'Briens' owners have decided to change our nice traditional English-style pub over to a 'surf bar' (whatever that is) as of Sept. '04.
So, either we'll all don grass skirts and learn some of those Hawaiian airs ~ or, more likely, we'll be seeking a new venue in Richmond.
