I found the old group in Knoxville. They stress traditional Scottish Music, yes, but they also play trad irish, and it was the only trad. irish I could find when I lived there. In their newsletters, they include links and information to the irish sessions (which I have since found and posted); so, I thought I'd include their sessions here (I recognize the risk of offending some die-hard trad. irish players). As I said, we were a mixed bag of players, and Betsy herself is a top-shelf irish fiddler. So for anyone who is only able to play on a Sunday and can't make the full irish sessions, these folks will welcome any trad. irish players kindly and graciously. They're a wonderful bunch, and Betsy has always organized the sessions and events very well.
Anyways, here's the latest email on this month's session:
Betsy just mailed this out. I don't think she's doing the weekly Old Southern Brewery sessions anymore.

This year we will focus on becoming more familiar with the tunes we currently have in our repertoire. We will continue to add new tunes, but only at the rate of one or two a month. Each month we will focus on a different type of tune or a regional style.
Calling all composers:
If you have a tune or two you have written and would like to share with others, we will devote our June meeting to new tunes and your tunes will be published with the club collection for the year. Please have submissions ready by the April meeting as May is typically busy with the Gatlinburg Highland Games.
Upcoming performances:
April 12,2003: Keep this date open. Maybe as part of its production of Lucia di Lammermoor, the Knoxville Opera will do a street fair. We may be asked to perform at this event. If you’re interested in participating, let me know, and I will let you know how things develop.
May18-19, 2003: Gatlinburg Highland Games. We have been asked to play for the Ceili Saturday Night. Possible also the reception Friday Night. During the daytime we have been asked to play for the Scottish Country Dancers. I’m also trying to arrange a tent for us at the games. We may have to pay for the space out of what the games pays the club. I had thought to rent a Condo for the group. We will discuss the plans at the January meeting.
Local Events of Interest:
January 25, 2003. Burns’ Night Dinner at the Radisson. Deadline for reservations is around January 19. Call Pat McCabe at 675-5347 or e-mail pmccabe@cgs-inc.com. An evening of Scottish entertainment in celebration of the Scottish Poet Robert Burns.
February 2, 2003. Drops of Brandy will be performing at the Historic Fort Loudon visitor’s center in the afternoon starting at 2:00 PM.
Scottish Country dancers meet twice a month and would be interested in having live music. If you want to learn the dancing (it’s “social” and lots of fun), contact Bernard Kaiman at 423- 753-4932 or Doris Magnuson at 671-9079. Those interested in playing for dancing (it can be fun), please contact me and we’ll see when we can get together to learn some dance sets.
Irish session every Thursday night 7:00-9:30 at Patrick Sullivan’s in the Old City. All musicians welcome to play or to listen
