A session for serious melody players

Session will be held on the second Saturday of the month. We had our initial session on September 12. We start around 1pm and will play until 4 or 5 pm.

This session is sponsored by ZoukFest and is an outgrowth of sessions held at Brickyard during the ZoukFest Irish Traditional Music Weekend held in June 2009.

We are going to be strict about session etiquette. An etiquette handout is available on request. Only one bodhran and one guitar will be permitted at a time. We strongly discourage (by which I mean we do not allow) amplified instruments, spoons, digeridoos, bones, tambourines, snare drums, shaky eggs, horns, kazoos, or other any other instrument that is not commonly part of a traditional Irish session.

We are friendly and welcoming to anyone who wants to join in and is willing to abide by session etiquette. Playing level will be generally intermediate and above, but we will try to give everyone a chance to play. Beginners may spend more time listening than playing, but it will be a good opportunity to learn what a session is and to start developing a session repertoire. We encourage beginners to also go to the jams at Page One and Two Fools Tavern and the slow sessions and workshops at Apple Mountain Music.

Brickyard has good food and a full bar including Guinness on tap for those who can't play without it. Come early and have lunch before we get going.
