Session in Sultan Washington anyone? (Snohomish County)

Greetings Irish musicians, dancers, patrons!

My name is Matt Haverly, and I live in the beautiful town of Sultan. For years now I have played at traditional Irish sessions in Duvall and Seattle, but was wondering if anyone was interested in joining me in starting an Irish session in Sultan.

I play a wide variety of traditional Irish tunes and instruments (both melodic and accompanimental instruments), and am looking for at least one other local Irish musician to begin a session here and hold it down, even if you only know a couple tunes. I can keep the tunes rolling continuously, but one musician does not a session make!

I have seen clusters of Irish dancers from the area show up at local events but have not yet seen any Irish musicians in Sultan. My girls are wonderful Irish dancers as well.

If you are interested, contact me at yournextcd@msn.com - or on my phone at 541.729.9335

There are some very neat venues interested in hosting that you may or may not be aware of - but first things first, I want to start with myself and at least one other musician, and possibly develop classes to enhance the efforts of those who have wanted to start playing Irish music but need a little help getting started.

Thank you for showing interest in bringing Irish music to Sultan on a regular basis!

We have a location - Ed's Apples - in Sultan

Ok, we have a location. I am developing a committed core group of players, but we haven't set a schedule or start date yet. However, I am excited about this location. I have seen a bluegrass session that meets there monthly, and it has great turnout, and a very nice vibe. The owners of Ed's Apples are wonderful hosts. They are so dedicated to having music in this wonderful location of theirs that they have a sound system installed into this place! I don't know that we will need it for the Irish session but it is cool anyway!

The place is very spacious - kind of like a barn, but with concrete floors. Very high ceilings. Stuff sounds good in there. It is fun being at a place like this apple orchard doing traditional music.

Please post if you are interested or have a schedule preference. Thanks!

Additional weekly sessions...

Weekly sessions will be scheduled ad-hoc to start - going month to month. However, I have been contacted by a couple of venues in Sultan intersted in hosting on a regular basis. I'm working out some details based on my knowledge of who can come when, and what player preferences are. If you are either a venue, or a musician interested in participating as a contributing member and have some ideas, please contact me soon, or just show up at the monthly session at Ed's Apples.

Irish music and dance in Sultan - isn't that cool?

Newspaper article on the Sultan Irish Session

http://www.monroemonitor.com/Issues/031709issue/0317096.pdf

The Monroe Monitor did a write-up on my efforts to start an Irish session in Sultan. It just kind of showed up in the paper - in other words, had somebody not called me and told me that they saw the article in the newspaper, I wouldn't have even known it was there (I wasn't interviewed directly - the picture is off of my facebook profile)!

Thank you Monroe Monitor - it is great to have coverage like this for the arts. It is an encouragement!

Update: we are now meeting in the colder months at the Sultan Information Center, and resuming at the Ed's Apples location in the warmer Summer months. Still every 3rd Sunday of the month at 6:30.
