This is a nice and cozy novice / intermediate session that has become a popular spot for local players to bring out their second instrument. It's usually quiet enough to hear the music.
It's been going on and off for several years now, depending on ownership willingness and Monday Night Football. (As it turns out, Irish music is a better draw than the NFL.)
Hey folks, I'll be in Boston Monday evening and am looking for Trad-related goings-on. I see a session listed for Mondays at the Crossroads Irish Pub. Does anyone know if that's still going on?
Thanks loads.
There's a song session at Tommy Doyles in Harvard Square, 7-9 and a session at the Greenbriar that I've been hearing about for ages but haven't made it to yet. Don't know about the Crossroads, but I can ask around, if we don't hear from anyone here.
The crossroads session (unless I'm much mistaken) is long gone.
The Green Briar is the big (>40 people), social session on mondays. If you were looking to meet other people who play, that would be your best bet. The Green Briar session has been going on for decades, and is the default place to go if you're travelling through boston on a monday night.
Alternately, there's the session at the Burren at 9pm which is usually just a couple people playing around a table with microphones. If you were looking to have a beer and listen to tunes for the evening, or if you preferred to play with two or three people into a microphone, then the burren might suit you better.
To reiterate, Tommy's in Harvard Square from 7-9, and there are actually two sessions at the Greenbriar, in Brighton: an early (time?) slow session (with yes, upwards of 40 or 50 people), and the regular session starts at 9, a bit (but not much) smaller.
Locations, that is, but the choice would be depend on your preference to either park yourself in one spot for the night, or travel a couple of miles across town between sessions. All three would be my choice, but obviously not possible (well, maybe via Skype ).

Thanks so much for all the info folks! I'll see if I can drag my travelling companions to the Gren Briar, I think. Thanks again!
