The session takes place from 2-5pm, and is open to anyone who can play or sing Celtic music. Numbers range from 3 to 15 or so, and average 6-8 players as of November 2006.
Hi, Whistleguy (or anyone else who attends this session) - could you provide some more information? Tunes played, instruments, etc?
I'm a novice fiddler with far more enthusiasm than ability at this point, and I've been playing for the past two months at a very large and friendly local session, where I can hide among a dozen-odd fiddles and at least as many guitars, whistles, flutes, concertinas, and bodhrans. I'm in Calgary every few months on business, and would love to hook up with the ITM community there during my breaks, but right now 6-8 people is sounding a bit intimidating! Maybe in a few months...
Just noticed the request for more info from Tall, Dark, and Mysterious. I just updated my tunebook, though I couldn't find all the tunes I play, so that should give you some idea of which tunes you might reasonably expect some help with. If you send me your email address, I might be able to send you a more complete list. My suggestion would be that you come down and have a listen, then later when you can play at least a few tunes reasonably well (no there won't be room to hide) you bring your fiddle along. As of October 2007 we've been having 3-4 fiddlers of intermediate to advanced level, any of whom would be happy to give you some suggestions, I'm sure!
