A new session; I haven't been yet. Every 2nd and 4th Saturday, late afternoon, 6:00 pm to about 8 or 9. Led by David Migoya of Fyfer Restorations (http://www.fyfer-restorations.com, if you want a new restored flute, here's where you want to go!), contact David for more info and whether the session is running when you want to come, migoya@earthlink.net.
If you can't get a hold of David, then co-owner Brian Cassidy should be able to answer any questions, contact Brian at brianc14b@hotmail.com .
Rumor so far has it that the acoustics are not the best, and the players are having a hard time hearing each other. Too bad, the place sounds great otherwise...but worth a try! I'll update after attending next month.
Also, this is, insofar as I know, the only Saturday session currently running in Denver -- everything else runs Sundays or Mondays (with one Thursday session).
Yes, it was *very* noisy, and it was hard not to overplay because you could barely hear yourself (in fact, Sos and I discovered how out of tune we were when we got the fiddles back out of the case the next day) -- a good time, though singers shouldn't probably bother to show up as the only people listening will be the players and there's no way to shush the rest of the place down. The food is really good -- the potato leek soup I had was to die for, with excellent bread, and I could have happily consumed two bowls! I hear the entire menu is as good. First drink is on the house.
Last Night's Fun band members were there (Tim, Nancy, Patty, but Brian Rummery was off on a business trip), and John Carr made the trip down from Ft. Collins as a bit of a lark, so we had a great time. Tim Murphy says this was the most noisy it'd been since the session has started.
Directions: Take I25 to Belleview, go east (away from the mountains!) on Belleview, go to second stoplight and turn left/north (it's Union/Ulster) and Darcy's is a small bit of a way up on the left.
This session, sadly, died. The noise was too difficult to get past in a place not used to how a session should be. It's not been rescheduled or relocated as yet.
This session, or at least the musicians who mostly made it up, has moved to Scruffy Murphy's Non-Smoking Irish Pub, located near the corner of 20th and Larimer streets in Downtown Denver.
Starting time 7:00 PM on Sundays.
