For 7 years we have held the Wed. night session at the Kerry Piper in Willowbrook, IL. The Kerry Piper requires us to move the session to Sunday, however, our members cannot make that day hence that session ends the last Wed. of 2005. Murphy Roche is looking for another area venue to host a weekly session and it will be posted here. soon, hopefully
Murphy Roche Irish music club - session update 1-25-06
The Murphy Roche Irish Music Club begins weekly Irish music sessions on Wednesday, January 25 at Rafferty’s Pub in Countryside, IL, a Chicago suburb. Irish musicians of all levels – championship to beginner – gather weekly to play traditional tunes from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm. Newcomers and listeners are always warmly welcomed. Rafferty’s Pub is at 10901 Joliet Road, between LaGrange Road and Wolf Road. Kell Chole, Murphy Roche chairperson, says, “These Irish music sessions are easy to get to and hard to leave!” For more information, please contact the Murphy Roche Club at 630-662-8611 or visit the Club’s web site at www.Murphyroche.com.
DIRECTIONS from EVERY Direction:
* If you usually take I-55 towards Chicago to get to the Kerry Piper, you can just keep going a couple more exits and you will see an exit for Joliet Road on the LEFT side of I-55. Take this exit and go straight. Rafferty's will be on your right at the 3rd light.
* Coming from Chicago, you would take the LaGrange Road North exit, go to Joliet Road and turn left. Rafferty's will be on your left at the 1st light.
* If you are coming from the south on I-294, take the Wolf Road exit (which is combined with the I-55 to St. Louis exit), turn right onto Wolf. Turn right at the stop light and Rafferty's will be on your right at the third light.
* If you are coming from the north on I-294, use the exit for the Stevenson Expressway. Pay the 15 cent toll and then use the middle exit, which is Joliet Road. Rafferty's will be on your right at the 3rd light.
Rafferty's has a warm and inviting feeling. It had wooden floors and a fireplace. They do have a pub menu in case you'd like to come for dinner.
The Murphy Roche session is now held on Tuesday nights (7.30 p.m.) at the Auld Dubliner pub in what I assume is a suburb of Chicago called Bolingbrook.
It took us about 45-50 mins. to drive there from downtown Chicago as the traffic was very heavy.
Mike Chole is the able and friendly host and the music seemed to cater for all levels.
The pub serves good food and the whole evening was well worth the trip out there.
