Is it every Friday? Who's invited - all levels/advanced? Is it really Quebecois, or mainly/also other genres? I've heard that in Montreal one Monday session is Irish and that a Wednesday session is Quebecois. How does this one go? How do they feel about different instruments? Thanks...
Armand Beaudoin informs me that the session started out years ago for beginners and those just back from hiatus on their instruments, but has since progressed into more advanced playing. It may include members of the symphony orchestra depending on who shows up. Armand plays traditional Quebecois fiddle music. Every Friday starting around 6:30 and going to around 11pm at the Centre communautaire des aines St-Michel/Rosemont. Marcel Taillefer leads the session. Thanks to Edmond for posting the session!
My husband and I had a wonderful time at the "session" (more like an open mic program as in East Durham, NY). If you do go to this you would have a good chance and the honor of playing with Yvon Cuillerier and his Trio Relance partners on guitar and piano. They show up regularly and are extremely generous with their time and talents. Expect to play two tunes backed up by the trio and join in twice during the evening en masse in a medley of fiddle tunes chosen by Yvon.
