This session is anchored by local legend, Kevin McGillian on box along with Fintan Malone on banjo and other instruments. This is a lovely place for a session and the owner, Gerry Timlin, has been known to sit in for a song or two.
Checked it out for the first time tonight, and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Mostly tunes, but the occasional song created a nice balance. Would categorize this session as pretty much intermediate-advanced, probably more towards advanced, but many of the tunes played tonight were common enough. FYI, Ambler is maybe 20-25 minutes outside of Philadelphia. Oh, and session starts around 8 PM. Tonight it ended around 11 PM. Not sure whether this is typical, but that gives anybody interested an approximate time.
Typically runs about 8/8:30 until 11. It's definitely an Irish session, but they didn't seem to mind hearing the couple Scottish and Cape Breton tunes I threw in.
It's a weekly session, so it can be a vastly different experience every time, but it was a great intermediate-advanced session with some friendly players. Nice mix of instruments (I've been to too many fiddle-dominated sessions lately) and the venue is lovely.
