This recording has just the right mix of original, odd, traditional and cool new tunes. The arrangements are suited for close listening of Niall's subtle and catchy concertina, although there is quality foot-stomping music too. The title track is a slow air, a bit of a trip to Transylvania, but it will probably grow on me. The last track is a kick in the pants. Niall puts a pleasant syncopation into most of the jigs and reels. I really like the banjo, and would have liked to hear more of it. Cillian Vallely adds some tastey piping on the Gold Ring and Boys of Ballymoate.
Inspiring concertina music
