I like it a lot

This is a pretty nice album. I got it mainly to hear the two tracks by Noel Rice--I am in such of awe of the way he can play a Boehm system flute in such a perfectly traditional Irish style. It's not an easy thing to do. All of the other performances are also top notch. Each track is sans accompaniment.

This seems to a new title for a record I have on vinyl, called "Light through the leaves: Traditional Irish Wind Instrumentals". It includes tracks recorded by Mick Moloney in the US from 76 to 78. Rounder Records 6014.

A lovely air (The Banks of the Lee) by Richard Hughes and a set of Larry McCulloch reels have been left off, but the rest is the same.

I love the reels on track 9. Rice's Flute & Ril Bheara. Niether are in the database here, but I hope someone posts them. Since it's Noel Rice on flute on that track, perhaps the first reel was composed by Noel. Anyone have any info on these tunes? The CD doesn't say much of anything. Perhaps the LP or cassette had more info?

A great recording...can't beat it for $8.

Aha...yes, it was written by Noel Rice, I found the tune and added it to the database. What a great tune!

Rice/Bheara

I used to have the LP, and am sure it said that Noel Rice himself composed “Rice’s Flute”. “The Bheara “ reel has been in the database since Will Harmon posted it on 23rd May 2002.
