I have been listening to Cherish the Ladies "The Girls won't Leave the Boys Alone" and have learnt by ear the tune thats played in the middle and as an outro to this track. Can any body confirm the name of this tune. Is it called "The Mad Puck Goat" or does it have another name.
A great song at any session as the chorus is so easy to learn (Hill a loo, hal a loo, hill a loo an Poc ar Buile, etc). Cork man, Sean Barrett (90 years young!) sings this frequently at the Monkstown Wednesday session and is normally joined by all present in the rousing chorus. I think it was Seán Ó Sé that introduced the song originally back in the sixties with Ó Riada's Ceoltóirí Chualann.
There is a MP3 after the lyrics. I haven't heard it yet cause I'm at work but will be downloading it at the weekend. It is my intention to learn to sing it in Gaelic, which is a big ask cause I am not a gaelic speaker.
