Re: Anyone know the name of the Slip Jig on Matt Molloys Stoney Steps?
I think it was a version of "Barney Brallaghan" - nothing to do with O'Carolan as far as I know. I first heard it played by Scottish folk-rock band , "The JSD Band" in the late 70s. Look it up in "Tunes" and it'll list the recordings of it posted on this site. There are words to it too, used to be sung by a great Tees-side [ North-East of England ] singer Vin Garbutt.
Probably the best traditional album in the world!!
Oh I forgot to say that in my my opinion Stoney Steps is probably the best trad album in the world ever!!
Yes I know that sounds o-t-t and like a tecky pop album!
But really this album to me is a celebration of life of traditional music of the flute and of Ireland, and it has the best accompanying ever done yet that I have heard.
Hope Matt equals or betters it with another some day.
Stony Steps
It looks like this album is so wellknown that nobody thought it could not have been in here...

Anyone know the name of the Slip Jig on Matt Molloys Stoney Steps?
It comes in after "The Parting of Friends" on Matt Molloys album.
Also is it an O Carolan tune?
If it is, is it in the Full Collection of OCarolan book?
Who else plays it?

In O'Neill's that's called Tipperary Hills. Michael Gorman recorded it in the 50s, on Folkways.
