One of the best of Scotland's current fiddlers, this time playing his own compositions. 'The Singing Land' is a 19thC reference to the north east of Scotland - Paul's home.
I always remember Paul, after a long journey, turning up as a guest artist at a local club. Without any (audible) warm-up, he launched into a series of performances of traditional and modern tunes. Technical brilliance, fireworks, warmth, passion, feeling and down to earth personality. Stunning and quite humbling. It took a week before I was able to pick up my own fiddle again. Everytime I hear his own beautiful air 'Luskentyre', it takes me back to that night - the first time I'd heard it.
