This is Spiro's third album (in about 15 years), to be released on 22 June 2009 on the Real World label.
"The White Hart", "Altrincham Round" and "Mr Keys" are based on eponymous tunes from John Offord's collection "John of the Greeny Chesire Way".
“Underland” features part of the “Sunderland Hornpipe”, also from the John Offord collection.
"A Small Light in the Far West" features "Grimstock" from John Playford's Dancing Master.
“Shaft”, “Pop” and “The Radio Sky” all feature tunes from “Peacock's Tunes”, published by the Northumbrian Pipers' Society; "Shaft" is based on "Bobby Shaftoe", “Pop” is based on “Highland Laddie”, and “The Radio Sky” is based on “The Bonny Pit Lad”.
More tune details:
"The Lost Heart" is based on a tune of the same name from John Playford's Dancing Master
"Binatone" is based on "Jack Latin" from the William Dixon Manuscript The Master Piper, edited by Matt Seattle, published by Dragonfly Music.
The album was recorded live in the studio at Real World Studios with no overdubs.
One odd thing I've just discovered - I wasn't able to find this recording on Amazon.com, but when I tried Amazon.co.uk and searched for "Spiro" it was at the top of the list.
