Released in 1978, this is one of the few Tara label albums which has never reappeared in CD format and its catalogue number was TARA 2001.

Aengus was a trio comprising brothers Jackie (uilleann pipes, whistle and mandolin) and Tony (guitar and vocals) Small plus Garry Ó Briain on mandocello and fiddle. For this, the trio's only album, they were joined by Maurice Lennon on fiddle on seven of the tracks.

It's not a great album, by any means, and certainly boasts one of the worst covers - Jackie sports outrageous sideburns, Garry (in atrocious 70s double-breasted jacket) looks as though he's just been nicked for some slightly embarrassing crime and Tony has the demeaning gaze of the social worker from hell.

Still, it's definitely worth seeking out for Jackie's piped rendition of 'When the Cock Crows' and Maurice's then party piece 'The Maid Behind the Bar'.
