The sound of this album's very much the sort I'd expect to hear coming out of the speakers in an Irish theme pub. I'd happily chomp a steak to it, registering it at one remove.
Many of the tracks are backed by drumkit and other sounds that are evidently the product of a great deal of mixing etc. and thus guarantee an unfailing metronomic rhythm. Raw and edgy this isn't - except that singing the MacColl song was Jim Murray's first experience of being recorded as a singer.
i like this album, some nice catchy tunes, new and old, would like to be able to hear a bit more of dezi donnelly tho. jim murray did very well for his first time on bass as well as composing some lovely tunes ! as always, these guys are top class, fair play. the cd is targeted at the wider market and not just the trad scene, thats why it has the sound, musicians, and arrangements it has and all that.

Not that I want to slag this album. Playing is as competent as you'd expect from this crew, with some very nice new tunes.
