Clear the Dresser and Take the Floor

I picked this up cheaply at a local market. They are a band with great drive and sound quite modern. Nice selection of tunes too. Oldies but Goodies! From the sleeve notes:

"The Emerald Ceili Band features a range of very talented young musicians from across four counties . . . Donegal, Fermanagh, Monaghan and Tyrone. The band continues to widen its repertoire and plays throughout Ireland at ceilis, sets, weddings and concerts. This recording features a lot of lively reels and jigs in a range of keys and the complexity of the tunes shows the standard of young musicians in today's world.
Finally, the band members would like to thanks their families, friends and teachers who have encouraged and supported the many hours of practice and effort needed to perfect the musicianship show in the album."

Musicians:

Button Accordion - Gerald Durnin
Fiddle - Janette Durnin
Fiddle - Matthew McGranaghan
Banjo - Cora McGee
Flute - Paidin Loughran
Piano - Paul Mongan
Drums - Michael McGurk

They remind slightly of The Swallow's Tail Ceili Band. It shouldn't be long before these lads and lassies become household names if they keep this standard up!

More popular than I thought

Reading up on the history of the band from their website, it turns out that they've been going since the early 90's and have released two earlier albums as well. It also turns out that the button accordion player, Gerald Durnin, was killed in a road accident in 2001. But the band is still going.
